FAQ

Why now?

Our current focus is to help as many people get onto net metering 2.0 as possible. Clients can get solar for a much lower price, in some cases up to 90%, if we sign a contract before April 13.

The Public Utility Commission sums it up well in their explanation of the transition from NEM 2 to NEM 3; power companies are losing millions of dollars buying overproduced energy back from the customer. Net Metering 2 in its current form is not a sustainable model for utility companies, but they are obligated to grandfather in all customers who enter at the NEM 2.0 rates; we want to try to get as many people as possible signed up for solar while the rules are highly favorable for customers.

One word of warning is that if you change the size of the system, this will trigger a new application and certainly justifies the utility company re-categorizing the system under net metering, 3.0, or whatever is in effect at the time.

Often, we can do this for under $1000, with maximum flexibility for the client going forward. We just need to spend about an hour on the phone together and we can have a contract ready and a memory ram in place within a week.

What is the installation process?

Once the client is ready to go, we move into high gear to install the system as quickly as possible. We focus on achieving the best long-term performance, highest return on investment, and lowest cost for our clients with the best aesthetic result possible. Clients can take time to secure financing, upgrade air conditioning systems into heat pumps, and add insulation. It also allows the client to determine the desired aesthetic they want, and add other features such as batteries. Once the engineering and the sizing of the system is done, we will get the plans approved so that the contract can be signed before net metering 3.0 goes into effect.

What makes us different from other solar companies?

There is a large difference in our process during the transition from NEM 2.0 to NEM 3.0 - we are trying to make sure as many people can qualify for NEM 2.0 as possible. We help our customers design a system that they could live with for 20 years, we provide a contract, and we give our customers a lot of flexibility within that contract to make adjustments and optimize prior to installation, including terminating the contract with us and finding an alternate provider if needed.

Isn’t that a lot of money to put upfront?

We realize how daunting it can be to put a large sum of money upfront into a new project for your home. If you don’t want to put the cash upfront or pull some money out of an investment or bank account, you can finance the system at a rate that is less than the return on investment - and you’re still ahead. Financing gives you the flexibility to pay down that debt as you have extra cash, and still achieve a great ROI.
